The Minnesota Freeze and Milwaukee Bombers met up for their fouth match of the year. The Freeze took the first three games but this time Milwaukee was coming with their recently arrived Australian scholarship players and would be a much tougher opponent.
Milwaukee opened the game by controlling the opening bounce, moving the ball to Ross Seigle in the wing but his kick to the goal square was spoiled by the Minnesota defense. The Freeze took over control but only managed to pepper the scoreboard with behind after behind. After opening their scoring with 1 goal to 4 behinds, they started kicking straighter to even up their differential. Milwaukee's lone points came off a shot from Anthony Pugh from about 35 meters out and into a cross wind.
1st Quarter
Minnesota 5.5.35
Milwaukee 1.0.6
The winds favored the team kicking to the wooded end of the field and Milwaukee was looking forward to the advantage in the 2nd quarter. Minnesota continued to control the play but inaccurate kicking minimized the impact on the scoreboard. With 8 scoring chances they only managed two goals by new recruit Sam Murphy and 6 behinds.
2nd Quarter
Minnesota 7.11.53
Milwaukee 1.1.7
3rd Quarter
Minnesota 11.16.82
Milwaukee 1.2.8
Milwaukee lost Anthony Pugh to an injury in the 3rd quarter and Minnesota loaned Kevin Crane to them for the remainder of the game. Milwaukee thanked Crane in the 4th quarter by setting him up for a long shot on goal that he easily slotted. Midfielder Matt Cattell was pushed forward and started finding the ball within scoring range. He added a couple of goals for the Freeze. He was accompanied by first year players Daniel Kerwin and Tyler Richtsmeier. Minnesota closed out the scoring when once again young Scott Johnson took the ball in traffic, peeled to his left and snapped a goal.
